Henri Grégoire

Henri Grégoire was a Roman Catholic priest and a revolutionary leader. He was born in Lunéville, France, in 1750 as the son of a tailor. He is often referred to as Abbé Grégoire and was the constitutional bishop of Blois.

Henri Grégoire received an education from the Jesuit College at Nancy and became a curé (priest) at an age of 32. The year after, he was crowned by the Academy of Nancy for his Eloge de la poésie.

Henri Grégoire belonged to a group of clerical and lay deputies with Jansenist of Gallican sympathies that supported the French Revolution. He was actually one of the first of the clergy to join the third estate and he played an important role in unifying the three orders. After the attack on the Bastille, Henri Grégoire worked to abolish the privileges of the nobles and of the Church.

In 1789, Henri Grégoire met Julien Raimond and became interested in abolitionism. He published both pamphlets and books on the subject and joined the “Society of the Friends of the Blacks”.

According to Henri Grégoire himself, he stayed a devout Roman Catholic throughout his life. He died in 1831 and his funeral was held at the church of the Abbaye-aux-Bois. The hearse was then dragged by students to the cemetery of Montparnasse, followed by a crowd of roughly 20,000 people.

Kerala

Kerala is a popular tourist destination that was named as one of the “ten paradises of the world” and “50 places of a lifetime” by the National Geographic Traveler magazine. It is located on the Malabar Coast in the south-western part of India where the climate is tropical and the ocean warm and inviting.

Kerala has a lot of wonderful beaches along the Arabian Sea and tourists flock in towns such as Varkala, Cherai and Kovalam. There are also more secluded beaches available for visitors that need some privacy and dislike appreciate crowded spots. In Cherai, you cannot only bask in the sun; you can visit Cherai Gowreeshwara as well, one of the main Hindu temples.

The climate in Kerala is heavily affected by the summer monsoon and the state has about 120-140 rainy days per year. The average rainfall per annum is 3000 mm. If you visit the easternmost parts of the state, you can expect a drier climate and parts of Kerala’s lowland does not receive more than 1250 mm of precipitation per annum. If you want to get really wet and experience an amazingly lush and green region, head for the mountains of eastern Idukki. This part of Kerala gets over 5000 mm of rain each year.

Wait until the beans are fully ripe before removing them. The beans should be firm and fully formed and the pod should have started to open up on its own. The best moment for harvesting vanilla beans is when the pod splits on its own accord.

Just because one pod has opened up it doesn’t mean that all pods are ready for harvest. Each pod must be allowed to mature at its own pace. Vanilla beans harvested to early are not as flavoursome as fully ripe beans.

One you have harvested your beans, they must be cured to free the flavour components. The two most commonly used methods are sun drying or hot bath.

My first post – A funny video

Wizards might be shunned by organised religion, but being a wizard still seems like a fairly sweet deal to me. The immortality part is especially alluring, especially if it could be achieved without the fucking of moms. Just go ahead and watch this video and you’ll see what I mean.
